Some of our Achievements from 2014 to 2015
We have held all the below events...
We have purchased a Yaesu Fusion digital analogue Repeater
Ken MW0YAC has obtained the necessary NOV for the GB3RT repeater
Ken MW0YAC , Chris 2W0OGY, & Peter MW0RPB obtained permission from the Henllys Hall Committee to install outside antennas/ masts, and installed the same and also carried out all necessary field tests.
Chris 2W0OGY , Peter MW0RPB, Ken MW0YAC John GW0OAJ and others who have helped and installed it all and got it all up and running and thanks go to all others who have helped with signal reports etc.
And thanks go to other members who donated equipment
Thanks go to John GW0OAJ for testing the filters and setting up the same.
And also to all who donated other equipment to be used in the installation, And the installation of Cables and Antennas, masts, Brackets, and numerous visits and modifications to the system to get it into optimum operation
Money saving and raising of funds
We have saved money by not holding a club meeting over the Christmas and new year period and Bonfire night with predicted low attendance.
By making new shelves in the Radio Cupboard for the hall committee, Who paid their share of the costs to our advantage! to enable us to fit more cabinets in the store room cupboard.
Thanks once again to Ken MW0YAC who donated the use of his van and services on 2 x occasions to pick up the metal cabinets from Pontypridd along with Peter MW0RPB and Chris 2W0OGY
We also saved money with the Ladies preparing and setting out the Buffets on several occasions.
Thanks to Mark MW0MKG for providing our own soft drinks etc at functions/ events
By providing our own catering at field days and other events
Making our own cables etc. for the repeater, and other events, And installation of the same.
Weekly Raffles, random raffles at functions /events, Christmas raffles, Bonus Ball.
Manning the Bar when needed. Thanks go to Peter and Sadie that saves £20.00 per event
We have applied for a grant from the Cwmbran Community Council £350.00? which we get most years.
Functions / Meetings / Events
We meet every Wednesday as opposed to other clubs once a fortnight / or once a month,
Some clubs also shut down during the school terms / summer holidays. Whereas we are open most of the year.
We hold a Christmas Raffle each year with Buffet and bar open.
We have a Christmas lunch at a local venue
An Excellent weekend Trip to Cornwall arranged and offered to all interested parties By Linda GW7RQN and Kath Bennett to visit the Marconi centre Poldu and also the Radio and Wireless museums. Earlier this year. Well done Ladies. (When is the next one?)
Various other trips offered but with little or no takers? ( RAF Hack Green, RSGB Hamfest, Pencoed, Cheese & Grain and others.) for earlier and later this year.
Field days (unfortunately cancelled this year due to wet weather!)
Last year we attended the last vintage radio rally and set up a radio station Chris 2W0OGY organised that one but quite a few of us attended and we had our own Bar- B -Q head Burger master Peter MW0RPB
We had a Friendly Inter club Quiz with the Newport ARC and now ready for the next one Ken MW0YAC organised that one with the Newport arc.
Friendly Visit to the Newport Club on several occasions
Visit to Newport club for a very informative talk on SDR Radio by Jeff Matlock All was welcome, 6 of us went!
QRP Competition (cancelled because of lack of interest?)
Some of us took part in the Henllys Village Fete Thanks to all that turned up!
Ken also volunteered his new Jaguar and his chauffeur services to drive the celebrity to the event Well done Ken!
Running cables fitting switches Wiring of sockets etc at the Llanyravon Mill a team event, Planned by Peter MW0RPB and Ken MW0YAC and Tested by John GW0OAJ Thanks to all that got involved! To make the event of MILLS ON THE AIR possible!
MILLS ON THE AIR (THE ONLY RADIO CLUB IN THE WHOLE OF WALES TO ENTER AND TAKE PART) !!!
This had a very good attendance! and publicity! Thanks to all of you that were involved!
A Fox hunt to take place later this year, With a presentation to the winner of a certificate as well as some good prizes given out by the Fox at the Pub after being found! The last to turn up buys a round of drinks for all participants! Good luck! (Just hope you are not last to check in) LOL!
6th -7th Birthday Party with food Buffet prepared and supplied by the Ladies with other food donations by other members with thanks.
We also had the bar open , With a Raffle with one prize being a £20.00 food voucher for the Dorallt Inn and other prizes, And a good night was had by all and we also raised £75.00 for club funds (it all helps to keep us afloat).
We held a Junk sale Earlier this year organised by Peter MW0RPB which was a bit of fun and not a bad turn out either .
We tried a club quiz and we had 12 persons in attendance! 8 being committee(who cannot enter for obvious reasons) !
SSTV Demonstration done by John GW0OAJ and MW0RPB with invites to others to participate ?
Antenna making demonstration on a few occasions this year by MW0RPB many took advise and tried making their own antennas and succeeded! Well done! Jim, MW6MUN and Richie,MW6LGA and others
Various electronic and test demonstrations done by John GW0OAJ. Well done John!
Exam training done by John Morrice GW0OAJ / Ken Smith MW0YAC and others
D STAR operation and demonstrations by Dave GW7RQM Thanks Dave!
Trip to RSGB Hamfest offered, But not enough interest to fill and cover the cost of the mini bus but it is now being done by car share with all interested parties later in September all seats now accounted for! Thanks go to Richie MW6LGA and Chris MW0LUK for volunteering to drive their cars to and from the event.
We have had a publicity campaign set up by Peter MW0RPB and adverts put in various pubs / shops as well as the Argus , Free ads, The Cwmbran town Crier, and the Torfaen talks free newspapers as well at the Henllys hall , Dorallt Inn! And Llanyrafon Mill and advertised on the club web pages.
A Christmas dinner is being arranged locally by the club for all who wish to attend, names will be required shortly by the events manager Richie MW6LGA Good luck in your new roll! (You will be writing this next time!)
We do not know the prices per head yet or the date at present but all are welcome, members and family or Friends as long as they have booked in advance and paid up front!
